What is Complementary Therapy?
Cúnamh offers a range of complementary therapies which are evidence based to all of our service users. The main focus of these therapies is to promote relaxation of your body and also your mind.
What we offer:
Reiki
Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on healing that increases energy, reduces pain, produces deep relaxation and a general feeling of well-being.
Reiki works on the spiritual, mental and physical as well as the energy systems of the body, helping to realign congested areas such as meridians, chakras and elemental channels. The Reiki therapist works gently with various hand positions around the body, feeling overactive or under active spots, which can be balanced. This assists the body’s self-healing process and is also very relaxing.
If you are feeling low in energy your body needs help! Reiki can recharge your batteries. Advanced Reiki Techniques are effective in helping with mental health problems such as trauma, stress and depression, physical health problems that are causing pain and discomfort and diseases, which result from a low immune system.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a specialised form of massage applied to the feet, which stimulates the body’s healing forces to restore the body to health.
The feet are a ‘mirror’ of the body & by applying pressure to specific reflex points, normal energy flow in the whole body is restored, gradually bringing about the balance necessary for good health.
Reflexology helps to revive & heal depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, irritable bowel, PMT, muscular pains & backache, to name just a few conditions. The treatment includes a soothing foot & leg message.
Holistic Massage
Massage is a refreshing & stimulating technique, manipulating the skin & tissues of the body. It can invigorate the system or alternatively promote relaxation, depending on the client’s needs.
The circulation is increased, aiding a sluggish system. Extra nutrition & oxygen promotes healing & feeds the skin, improving the texture.
Lymphatic flow is increased, speeding up the removal of toxins & imbalances from the body. It is excellent for the muscles whether it be fatigue or fibrosis; muscle tone is improved, as is suppleness. Regular massage can prevent tense, fibrous muscles, maintaining a healthy body and a feeling of well-being.
Indian Head Massage
This traditional treatment will relieve stress & tension by firmly & rhythmically massaging, until pressure begins to simply float away.
It is a therapeutic massage of the back, shoulders, neck, scalp & face; in fact it is excellent for the loosening of the upper limbs. By stimulating circulation, Indian head massage relaxes the scalp & tones the muscles, thus helping to relieve headaches & eyestrain.
